How does a Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Panel work?
The solar PV system works by using the sun’s energy to generate electricity. Once installed on the roof of your home, it will work all year round because it only requires daylight to operate, not direct sunlight.
The solar PV panels have cells which are made from semi-conducting material, so when light shines on them they react by creating an electric flow across the whole panel and be collected via a cable from your roof.
The electricity must then be transferred from a direct current to an alternating one, which will then be ready to use in your home in the normal way.
What is the Feed-In Tariff?
Under the government’s Feed-In Tariff scheme, you can earn cash for every kilowatt hour of electricity you generate, regardless of whether you’ve used it. The scheme was introduced to encourage people to generate their own electricity, by paying them money back over at least 20 years.
You can also earn cash from the National Grid from any excess electricity.
